G-SHOCK was developed at a time when it was believed that watches were very fragile instruments. It all began when a young CASIO engineer took it into his head to "create a watch that never breaks, not even when it falls".
After gaining attention in 1974 with the market launch of the first digital wristwatches, CASIO since the 1980s has strengthened its presence in the watch industry with the development of G-SHOCK, a virtually indestructible wristwatch. The first G-SHOCK, the DW5000 model, was launched in 1983. Thus begins an unparalleled history of success: the G-SHOCK watches with their particular design soon became the favorite model of "Urban Youth" all over the world.
In a very short time, G-SHOCK watches became synonymous with resistance, innovation and versatility. Finally, there was no longer a need to take off the watch to enjoy skateboarding or riding a BMX. Drops and bumps are no problem for G-SHOCK watches. Designed for everyday life, sport or the most demanding outdoor activities, G-SHOCK watches have been reliable and versatile companions in any situation for 35 years. Today G-SHOCK has earned the privilege of being worn by men who know no bounds
In the early 1980s, engineer Kikuo Ibe was in charge of CASIO's watch design. In 1981 he formed a design team consisting of only three people to whom he entrusted the task of making an indestructible watch. Their efforts were rewarded with the development of the Triple 10 concept. The most diverse materials were tested, the impact resistance of the first prototypes was tested in the most difficult conditions. However, Ibe was still not satisfied: even the hardest metals were able to protect the digital interior from shocks and other external factors. After months of hard work, the engineers, physically and mentally tired, began to fear that they would never reach their goal ...
One day, while watching children play in a park, Ibe realized that the impact of a bouncing rubber ball with the ground had no effect inside. Based on this observation, the design team developed a watch with a hollow structure and floating module inside.
The long and complex experimentation phase lasted almost two years. After perfecting the development of the case and various components on more than 200 prototypes, the first G-SHOCK was launched on the market in 1983. Revolutionary ideas, such as the "hollow" body structure, the protective case and the shock-absorbing material to protect the delicate components, are the basis of G-SHOCK. The structure resistant to any type of shock that would have radically changed the traditional concept of a watch has remained the heart of every G-SHOCK model to this day.
Battery life 10 years, waterproof and underwater pressure resistance up to 10 bar, drop resistance from 10 meters. These are the three original requirements of the "Triple 10" concept. The immutable shape and robust style were born from the designer's desire to create an indestructible watch. Since the presentation of the first model in 1983, G-SHOCK has been the subject of continuous evolution, while maintaining the unique basic structure. Thus were born the MT-G models that combine elegance and exclusivity with the characteristic robustness of G-SHOCK. The quartz movement of the stainless steel G-SHOCK watch is protected from vibrations by an exclusive CASIO system perfected in over 35 years of research and to which the G-SHOCK brand owes its image as a virtually indestructible watch. The MR-G models also stand out for their high-quality workmanship: high-quality titanium case and strap coated in DLC (diamond-like carbon, carbon with the typical hardness of diamond) and therefore practically abrasion-resistant.
